GEORGE TOWN, Feb 1 (Bernama) — In conjunction with the Penang Hot Air Balloon Festival at Padang Polo on Feb 9 and 10,the Sepoy Lines road here will be closed from 10 pm on Feb 8 until 10 pm on Feb 10.
Penang Global Tourism general manager,Ooi Chok Yan said in conjunction with the event,the company would provide free shuttle bus services involving three routes beginning from the jetty,Tanjung Tokong Tesco and Queensbay.
“The buses will stop by at Komtar and Sungai Nibong beginning 7 am until 10 pm throughout the event period,” he said at a press conference,here today.
He also called on members of the public against parking their vehicles at Jalan Macalister,Jalan Utama and Jalan Residensi heading for Padang Polo to ensure smooth traffic flow.
“Seven parking areas are provided namely at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Residensi,Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tunku Puan Habsah,Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Perempuan St George,the car park opposite Kolej Disted-Stamford,St Christopher’s International Primary School,Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society and Taman Jajar,Jalan York,” he said.
Ooi advised visitors to only use the car parks which were provided free of charge and not to throw rubbish indiscriminately.
Meanwhile,a representative of the Traffic Branch of the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters,ASP M. Matavan said 40 police officers and other ranks would be involved in controlling traffic throughout the festival.
“Mobile police stations will also be set up for security purposes throughout the hot air ballon festival which is being held in the state for the second time,” he said.
